Kundapur, Mar 31: Residents of Bappanabail, Shirur gram, here, staged ‘toll chalo’ symbolic protests for various demands near Shirur toll gate. Raghurama K Poojary who led the protests said that several promises made during road works at Bappanabail where farmers reside in large numbers are not met. Therefore, farmers face hardships every year due to a lack of roads. The problems should be solved immediately, he urged.
The national highway authorities and the company officials entrusted to conduct the works agreed to begin the work within the purview of the department for the convenience of farmers.
District panchayat member Suresh Battadi, Byndoor taluk panchayat social justice committee president Pushparaj Shetty, Shirur gram panchayat president G U Dilshad Begum, vice-president Ravindra Shetty Patel and local Subraya Naika were present. A memorandum requesting to fulfil demands was handed over to IRB officials later. Journalist Arun Kumar Shirur compered the programme and thanked everyone.
