Karwar: Attempt to crush police officer under vehicle - Four including Congress leader arrested

Karwar, Mar 31: An attempt to crush an on duty police officer under a vehicle was made on March 29. The police have arrested four persons relating to the incident.

A case has been registered against entrepreneur and Congress leader, Suresh Nayaka, in Ankola police station. He has been accused of trying to crush the additional superintendent of police at the Hattikeri toll plaza, Ankola.

Suresh Nayaka from Ankola, along with his associates, Bommayya Sannqappa Nayaka, Gopal Griyanna Nayaka and Suresh Giriyanna Nayaka were engaged in arguments on the issue of toll charges near the Hattikeri toll plaza. Additional superintendent of police (ASP) Badrinath, who was moving towards Ankola from Karwar, saw the commotion and asked the concerned to stop fighting with the toll staff.

But Suresh Nayaka turned his anger against the police officer and tried to drive his Scorpio car on the ASP. The car knocked the ASP down to the ground, injuring him as a consequence. Other policemen on the spot blocked the vehicle by coming forward, but Nayaka drove the car away, with the vehicle almost brushing the police personnel in the bargain. Video clip of the incident has gone viral.

Suresh Nayaka has since been arrested. Bommayya Nayaka, Gopal Nayaka, and a minor son of Suresh Nayaka have been taken into custody.
