Udupi, Mar 30: Kasturba Hospital, Manipal received certification from National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare providers (NABH), Quality Council of India for Blood Bank.
Quality and safety of blood being the priority of Kasturba Hospital Blood Centre, now received NABH Certificate of Accreditation. With this certificate, Kasturba Hospital Manipal has added one more feather to the crown of quality and accreditations.
Dr H S Ballal, pro-chancellor of MAHE, Manipal handed over the certificate of accreditation to Dr Shamee Shastry, director of Kasturba Hospital Blood Center, appreciating the efforts of the entire team.
Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, vice-chancellor of MAHE congratulated the team and emphasized the role of transfusion services in delivering quality healthcare. Dr PLNG Rao, pro-vice-chancellor of Health Sciences said, “The certificate of accreditation is a reflection of quality services delivered by the Blood Centre and it is a process of continuous quality improvement."
Complementing the team, Dr Sharath K Rao, dean of KMC, Manipal, said, “The programme helps to strive towards excellence. Transfusion Medicine is an evolving branch of medicine and Kasturba Medical College, Manipal also offers a postgraduate training programme in this field."
C G Muthana, COO and Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, conveyed that the quality system implemented at the Blood Center covers the entire transfusion chain starting from blood donors to the patients. They also mentioned that, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the staff of the Blood Center worked relentlessly to meet the new challenges.
Speaking about the scope of the NABH accreditation, Dr Shamee Shastry, director of the Blood Center at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal said, “In addition to the basic services of a Blood Centre, it also includes specialized blood products such as leukodepleted, irradiated blood components, apheresis products, granulocytes, Nucleic Acid Testing, and therapeutic procedures performed by the department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion."
On the occasion, Dr Narayan Sabhahit, registrar of MAHE, Dr Suneel C Mundkur, advisor, Quality implementation, Dr Ganesh Mohan, quality manager of the Blood Center, and others were present.
