Mangaluru, Mar 30: Strong wind, rain and lightning had struck the city and some parts of Dakshina Kannada district in the night on Monday March 29.
While the wind and rain created problems for many, it also brought some respite from sweltering heat experienced in the coast. Fallen trees, fallen electric poles, fallen branches of trees etc were reported from a few places. Power supply was severed after trees fell on high tension lines at a few places.
The powerful wind also powered away fishing boats anchored at the old port. Several boats floated out of their spots at the old port after their ropes were snapped. Many of these boats reached seashore at places like Panambur, Meenakaliya, Chitrapur, Surathkal, Sasihithlu and other places. Many boats have been damaged and the fishermen who are already in dire straits, are facing further problems.
The meteorological department has predicted thunderstorms at a few places in coastal Karnataka and at a few places in south interior Karnataka. Dry weather will continue in north interior Karnataka, it stated in a prediction that is valid till Wednesday morning.
