Heavy rains coupled with storms, thunder lash Mangaluru with fury

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SHP)

Mangaluru, Mar 29: The city experienced heavy rains coupled with strong winds and thunder in the late evening on Monday, March 29. In some parts of the city, extensive damage occurred with Dhwaja Stambham (flagstaff) of two Daivasthanas being destroyed. The strong winds uprooted trees and caused the flex boards to fall on the ground.

In Bondel, Kavoor, Marakada and parts of Kunjathabail, petty shops suffered damages with traffic barricades getting destroyed.

Although the rains brought down the temperature bringing much-needed respite in the scorching summer nights, commuters and motorists faced trouble travelling as the rains lashed the city with full fury.

With the increase in temperature, this is year is likely to be the hottest summer experienced by Mangaluru. The coastline gets wind from the seaside during the day while at night, wind moves towards the sea. As such, the temperature is set to rise during the day as the humidity in the air goes down due to the hot air. The coast has been lately recording increase in temperature which has been observed since November 2020.

Cynthia, Rightly said. Few years back I was in Mlore my family had out what to say suddenly lightening and thunder as if sky opened to drop thunder bolts down. I started praying, was scared like any thing. My house is on top of Hat Hill and newly built. I literally sat on chair in a corner thinking lightening may not hit me. I never ever experienced thunderbolts of that intensity. I enjoy rain but go crazy of the thunder.

Citizens of Mangaluru city, should hold the Municipal Corporation n the Electricity board, for not laying underground power cables, junction boxes, which would have been 100% safer and would have certainly prevented any power supply blackouts to this city....

Total black out in half an hour of rain and wind, no electricity for three to four hours. But government interested in supplying cooking gas through pipeline what would be the state of affairs. In the case of development keep existing utilities in proper condition.
