Mangaluru, Mar 29: The city experienced heavy rains coupled with strong winds and thunder in the late evening on Monday, March 29. In some parts of the city, extensive damage occurred with Dhwaja Stambham (flagstaff) of two Daivasthanas being destroyed. The strong winds uprooted trees and caused the flex boards to fall on the ground.
In Bondel, Kavoor, Marakada and parts of Kunjathabail, petty shops suffered damages with traffic barricades getting destroyed.
Although the rains brought down the temperature bringing much-needed respite in the scorching summer nights, commuters and motorists faced trouble travelling as the rains lashed the city with full fury.
With the increase in temperature, this is year is likely to be the hottest summer experienced by Mangaluru. The coastline gets wind from the seaside during the day while at night, wind moves towards the sea. As such, the temperature is set to rise during the day as the humidity in the air goes down due to the hot air. The coast has been lately recording increase in temperature which has been observed since November 2020.
