Mangaluru: More free fitness camps for Karnataka police to soon be reality, announces Bommai

Mangaluru, Mar 29: The valedictory ceremony of the month-long 'Police Fitness Camp' was held at Father Mullers Convention Centre on Monday, March 29.

State home minister Basavaraj Bommai was the guest of honour for the valedictory program.

Home minister Basavaraj Bommai said, "In the police department we need fit cops so that they can move around quickly. As we grow old, our weight becomes a barrier and it is not easy to stay fit for long. Those who have willpower will maintain their body fit throughout. The step taken by Mangaluru city police commissioner N Shashi Kumar is really inspiring. I feel every policemen and woman should get involved in fitness camps. Once I reach Bengaluru I will bring a circular to conduct such free camps for the Karnataka police, so that cops will stay slim and fit as per our expectations." 

Speaking on the occasion, police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, "We had conducted a one-month-long police fitness camp for the policemen and women within the Mangaluru city police commissionerate. Due to lifestyle, some cops were obese. So we decided to take up a police fitness camp for Policemen weigh above 90 and policewomen weighing above 70. In the last month, various improvements were seen in fitness like weight loss, flexibility."

DCP law & order Hariram Shankar said, "The month-long police fitness program began on March 1 and concluded on March 29. During this one month, as many as 76 policemen participated, among which 50 are men and 26 are women. The fitness program started with yoga, drill practice, Zumba, training sessions, walking for several kilometres etc. Policemen and women have lost weight of around 1.4 kg to 10.5 kg through this camp."

Mangaluru North MLA Dr Bharath Y Shetty, director, Father Muller Charitable Institutions, Fr Richard Coelho, superintendent of police, B M Laxmi Prasad, DCP Vinay Gaonkar and others were present.

    Physical fitness is police and militory first requirement. So, Once in every 6 months they have to pass physical fitness test. If failed they have to attend fitness camp without pay.

    Police are becoming obese?They are already.Too much sitting around .Best is only two chairs are allowed in Police centrum.Rest throw out.Best is morning when Police come to duty start every day with a good drill for 5minutes without fail .No sitting move around :One should see in Airport mangalore and Bangalore sitting till day ends.Normal chairs are not enough.Once in amonth test their weight.Put some fitness maschines in Office .No camps .They will forget once home .
