Mangaluru, Mar 28: In the wake of the attack on KPCC president D K Shivakumar's convoy in Belagavi by supporters of former BJP minister Ramesh Jarkiholi, Karnataka home minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday March 28 said that he has asked the police commissioner of Belagavi to take strict action against those who take law into their hands.
He was speaking to reporters after arriving at Mangaluru International Airport here on Sunday evening, en route to Kasargod.
"I am on my way to Manjeshwar to campaign for our candidate ahead of the Kerala elections," he told reporters.
On asked about the Belagavi incident where supporters pelted stones on Shivakumar's escort vehicle, he said, "No, they did not throw at him, but at the last car in his convoy. I have spoken to the police commissioner, who has given a clarification. I have instructed the commissioner to ensure that not a single untoward incident occurs, and that security is provided to maintain order. I have also asked him to take strict action against anyone who takes law into their hands."
On allegations that the BJP government was protecting Jarkiholi in the sleaze CD case, Bommai dismissed the charge and said, "What Congress or anyone else says is not important. Probe will be conducted in a transparent manner as per law. No matter what anyone says, we have nothing to do with it. When a similar incident had happened with H Y Meti of Congress, they did not even lodge a case. I will not give any importance to Congress statements.
"There are sincere, upright officers in the SIT who work according to the law. They will not come under any political pressure," he said.
Earlier in the day, supporters of Ramesh Jarkiholi, who is accused in the sex-for-job scandal involving a woman, pelted stones at D K Shivakumar's escort vehicle in Belagavi. Shivakumar too was named in a new video released by the woman, where she claimed that she had approached him for help after the CD was released.
