Update

Daijiworld Media Network – Bantwal (DV)

Bantwal, Mar 26: After miscreants opened fire at Vittal sub-inspector (SI) Vinod Reddy on Friday March 26, in a swift action, Dakshina Kannada police have arrested three accused in connection to the case.

The arrested are Shaakir, Ashak, and Lathif.

It is learnt that this gang had opened fire at a club in Hidayath Nagar in Uppala of Kasargod district on the afternoon of March 25. Later, they fled from the spot. During the combing operation of the police, the gang also opened fire at Kerala police jeep at Miyapadavu in the night and then escaped towards Vittal. Soon after, they opened fire at Vittal police in Salethur during the checking. Vittal police too opened fire at the miscreants in retaliation and successfully nabbed three accused.

It is learnt the accused are involved in murder, attempt to murder, ganja smuggling and kidnap cases in police stations of Kumbala and Kasargod.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Devajyoti Ray visited the spot. He assured of arresting other two accused who managed to flee.

Superintendent of Police (SP) B M Lakshmi Prasad and DySP Valentine D'Souza were present.

Speaking to the media, IGP Devajyoti Ray said, “The gang opened fire at police in check-post in Salethur under the limits of Vittal police station. Now, police have arrested three accused in connection to the case. Weapons and the vehicle used in the crime has been confiscated and inquiry is progress. We have also found drugs with them. This is a serious issue, as the issue is related to drug trafficking in the area. DySP from Kasargod also visited the spot. We will take up a detailed inquiry. There is a staff crunch in Vittal station. We have sent a proposal to the government. As this is a border area and cases are increasing under Vittal police station limits, measures will be taken to increase the staff. The number of check posts will be increased.”

SP Lakshmi Prasad said, "The gang had opened one round fire at the police. Later, they collided their vehicle against the barricade. Immediately, the police arrested them. Three are arrested while two are absconding. We have found a pistol, 15 rounds of live bullets, a dagger, and drugs and the vehicle has been seized. They had opened fire in the night at Kerala police during the combing operation. Later, they escaped from there and entered Karnataka. As we had the information, we deployed tight police security at the check post.”

Police investigation revealed that a gang who call themselves the 'D Gang' in Kasargod, Paivalike, and Miyapadavu had procured a pistol. A video of these youths brandishing the pistol has gone viral on social media. On the basis of this, a case was registered in Manjeshwar police station. The gang had opened fire in Miyapadavu at the Kerala police during the operation. In the wee hours of Friday, when Vittal police were conducting a checking at the Kodange check post, the accused opened fire at police and in the course of their fleeing hit their car into a barricade at around 4 am, state a press release from DK police.

A case in this connection has been registered under Sections 143, 147, 148, 353, 307 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 8(A)(c) and 21(b), 22 (C) of NDPS Act 1985.

Karnataka police ki bas ki baath nahin hai bhai..It is only Mumbai police which can kill the fraudsters.. Karnataka administration is the most corrupt in south India. If one plans to kill, the other officer will intimate the same to the goons before they start from the police station..ha ha ha
