Puttur, Mar 24: The only cashew museum in the state which also is the biggest in the country, which has been set up at the National Cashew Research Centre Puttur, is ready for being dedicated to the world. This museum is touted to be the only integrated museum in the public sector to showcase the entire gamut of cashew and its products at the national level.
The museum has come up in the premises of the cashew research directorate under the Council of Agricultural Research, It has been named Cashew Plant Health Clinic and Museum.
Various aspects of how the DCR here was founded, its achievements, breed research, national level innovations in cashew cultivation, invention of different species, characteristics of such species etc are unveiled here in the form of visuals and models. Information about which supplies suit which part of the country etc are shown here. There are also feature films on cashew cultivation management, fertiliser, irrigation, control of diseases etc.
Under the Rashtriya Krishi Vijnan Yojana, the central government had given a grant of two crore rupees to the cashew centre at Puttur under the farmer welfare project. In-charge managing director of the DCR Dr M G Nayak, dreamt of opening a museum. Now the museum has taken shape with an expenditure of Rs 60 lac. There is also information about making juice with cashew fruits, jam, jelly, pickles, fenny wine making demonstration etc. There is also information about making Chyavanaprash with cashew fruits, baby powder etc, and information about vitamins, nutrients etc in cashew.
The DCR at Puttur has achieved several milestones during the last three decades. Even though there is such a museum at Delhi, taking into account the integrated approach, this is very vast, said in-charge managing director of DCR, Dr M G Nayak.
