Mangaluru: Revision of ration cards not in near future

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Mar 24: People can continue to apply for ration cards, but revision of ration cards is not being taken up currently. Because, the government, for some reason, has blocked the software since some time.

Application for ration cards can be filed only through an online website. It may take several months before the software is opened again. Officials in the food and civil supplies department say that cards can be issued only thereafter.

People of Dakshina Kannada have several issues and problems concerning ration cards. Deputy director of the food department, Ramya C R, says that people can go to the taluk office or district office to clear their doubts. She said that the staff of the department have been asked to provide information and assistance to the people and that wherever necessary, help desks will be opened. Applications for new ration cards can be filed through Mangaluru One office or through websites with private operators, she stated.

"For the present, the department is not issuing new ration cards. People can get several food department services through the Sakala application. Change of address, making changes in ration cards in tune with Aadhar cards, change of address, change of ration shops, adding or deleting of names etc fall within the Sakala scheme," the officials say.

The people have to stay away from middle men who promise to get new ration cards and then blame the department. People can contact 0824-2423622 in Mangaluru, 2412033 for Mangaluru taluk, 08255-232125 for Bantwal, 08251-231349 for Puttur, 08256-232383 for Beltangady and 08257-231330 for Sullia taluk.

Probably run out of grains stock. There isn't raw rice available in any ration shop in the city for existing users, what they will distribute to new cards ? Over-supply during Covid-19 when it started. Now don't have even the essential grains. Upon that the government is boasting about One Nation, One Ration Card.
