Moodbidri, Mar 24: The Kodagu district police have succeeded in cracking a case concerning the murder of a live alone old woman. The accused happens to be Anil from Moodbidri who used to work on contract basis for a private resort near Madikeri.
Unknown people had killed Lalita (70), who lived alone near a resort in K Nidugane village in Madikeri taluk. Her gold ornaments had been taken away. The district crime intelligence bureau (DCIB) had formed team of experienced personnel to investigate the case. The team, after conducting investigation from different angles, arrested Anil. Anil was arrested by a team led by Madikeri rural police inspector Ravikiran.
Anil, a mechanical engineering graduate, reportedly confessed to have hit Lalita on her head with an iron rod, and stealing her gold ornaments and cash after she died. The police have recovered 72 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 2.8 lac which had been sold by the accused in Moodbidri and Mangaluru, Rs 4,000 in cash, a motorcycle, and the murder weapon have also been recovered.
District superintendent of police Kshama Mishra and deputy superintendent of police B P Dinesh Kumar, guided the operation with the involvement of Madikeri rural police circle inspector Ravi Kiran and DCIB personnel.
