Udupi, Mar 24: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind's Hoode unit near here, which has been involved with social service activities continuously, handed over a house it has built for a poor, Dalit family.
This happens to be the 16th house provided by the organization under its ambitious plan to arrange for the shelter for the homeless. Tonse gram panchayat has been identifying families without a home to stay for the purpose.
Speaking on the occasion, zonal convener of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Abdussalam Uppinangady, said that the organization has been doing this noble work selflessly with the sole aim of earning the blessings of the Lord. He said that his organization is driven with the sole objective of helping the orphans and poor people in the society as per the guidelines provided in Quran. He wished that such benevolent activities will be undertaken by more and more people.
Shyamaraj Birti noted that lacs of people in India have been struggling for existence without a roof on their heads. "We can see people living in huge pipes for want of homes. In this background, the activities undertaken by Jamaat-e-Islami Hindi without differentiating people on the basis of their castes and religious affiliation, are worth appreciating," he commented.
Manjunath Bakudru, taluk panchayat member, Sulochana Sathish, gram panchayat member, Vijay, and Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Hoode president, Abdul Qadir Moideen also spoke on the occasion.
Gram panchayat president Latha, members Suzan D'Souza, Mumtaz Jameela, Datsala, Dr Faheem, Sandhya, Kusuma, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Udupi district president Shabbir Malpe and others were present.
