Bengaluru, Mar 22: The state government has clamped strict rules to contain the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic in Karnataka. But the situation does not warrant enforcing semi or complete lockdown, health and family welfare minister Dr K Sudhakar said in Bengaluru on Monday.
Speaking to media representatives, he said the state government has started strictly screening the incoming travellers from high caseload states of Maharashtra and Kerala.
If there is no negative RT-PCR test, the people coming from high caseload states are subjected to test at the border itself, he said.

Increasing penalty for not wearing a mask is also being discussed. More people should come forward to get the vaccine, said the minister as the vaccine is made available to ensure the safety of the people.
Dr Sudhakar said Union Home Ministry's support is required for strict screening at borders.
"Chief minister B S Yediyurappa has already conducted a meeting in this regard. Semi lockdown or full lockdown is not considered for now. We need to learn from past mistakes,’’ the minister said.
At weddings and other functions, where more people gather, they should compulsorily wear masks and follow social distance besides ensuring that the restriction on a number of people is not violated. Those violating the norms will be penalized, he said.
"If the cases increase further, a decision will be taken regarding educational institutions after discussing with the chief minister," he said.
Three Covid Care Centres will be operational in Bengaluru this week.
"We can contain the second wave if people co-operate,’’ added the minister.
