Kasargod: Miscreants vandalize grotto of St Lawrence at Maniyampare church

Kasargod, Mar 22: Miscreants pelted stones at the grotto of St Lawrence Church at Maniyampare, intervening night Sunday March 21.

The miscreants damaged the statue of St Lawrence and the glass covering the grotto.

The incident came to light on Monday morning when a youth noticed the damaged glass of the grotto.

Badiadka police arrived to the spot and undertook investigation.

Raju Stephan D’Souza, Kumbla, nominated president, Catholic Sabha Mangaluru Pradesh, and Wilfred Manohar Crasta, president, Catholic Sabha, Kasargod, condemned the act and demanded immediate arrest of culprits.

    Again a attack on Grotto and damaging the statue of St.Lawrence.Really people .in our churches and Grottos there is no money or Gold.No need to search here.People are poor at present.so kindly the one who did this ask Pardon with God and st.Lawrence .he will forgive you I am sure.I dont find any hatred here ,or any religious reason ,but think one who was drunk or searched money .Otherwise would wandalize whole.sad but cant help.I am sure he will one day come or will findout who was it.Just seeing picture ,can aanybody more or less make out who can be?Hope police will help one day.

    Vandalizing of grotto or religious places of any caste is illegal and people should give respect to ones religious beliefs. Religious intolerance is not good for society in general and there are certain groups/politicians support vandalizing religious places. Let Police arrest the perpetrators and punish them accordingly!!!

    Maniyampare falls under Manjeshwar assembly constituency. In Manjeshwar, Hindus and Christians live a harmoneous life. The Christians in fact favoured the BJP candidate in the last elections where the BJP candidate lost just by 80 odd votes. Both LDF and UDF are hell bent to break this Hindu Christian unity in the area as the elections are nearing. This could only be the reason for this shameless act.
