Udupi, Mar 21: Fear gripped a family here on Sunday March 21 after a leopard in search of prey entered their house. The family then locked the room into which the leopard had entered from outside.

The incident took place at Nailadi near Brahmavar. The leopard was about to pounce on the family's pet dog, but the latter escaped and ran into the house.

The leopard followed the dog inside the house.

The inmates of the house, who got awakened due to the sound, locked the door of the room from outside, thereby locking the leopard inside the room.

Later, zonal forest officer of Shankaranarayana Chidanandappa led a team that comprised of sub-divisional forest officer Manjunath Naik, personnel Ravi, Ravindra, Santhosh Jogi, Vittal Naik, Shivu and Sudeep Shetty and conducted an operation to catch the leopard.

After an hour-and-a-half long operation the leopard was made to go inside the cage. It was subjected to medical check up at Saibarkatte veterinary hospital and later released in reserve forest.
