Bantwal, Mar 20: The village stay has helped to know the real picture of the issues and people also are comforted, said deputy commissioner (DC) Dr Rajendra K V. He was speaking to reporters at Kodangayi, Vitla Padnur.

“If government land is grabbed, it will be recovered. Nearly 70 applications were disposed in Beltangady before village stay. Survey is required for 20% applications. Most of the applications are about BPL ration cards, Sandhya Suraksha, pension to specially-abled, widow pension, Manaswini Maithrayi etc. Those will be inspected.

“The minister is made aware of the expenses of village stay. Dakshina Kannada and Kasargod have the highest amount of communication. Covid tests are not being performed on all the state boundaries. Therefore, entry to Karnataka is allowed only on four main roads. Necessary precautions are being taken there.

“There are more than 25 gram panchayat task force teams on the borders. Further precautions will be taken in the days to come.

“Wearing of masks, maintaining social distance and sanitization provides 90% safety. Free vaccination is provided in government hospitals. Several medicines are available through Ayush department. The police department has already cracked several cases of drug menace. There is a centre for destitute at district level. The district administration will arrange for their stay if informed.

“Harassing senior citizens for government schemes is not right. Efforts to avoid involvement of officials and make the amount reach the bank accounts of beneficiaries are in progress. A few mobile applications are being prepared for the purpose. All the beneficiaries will receive government assistance in the future,” he said.

Earlier, inaugurating the programme of village stay, he asked people to speak up without thinking of politics.

“The village stay is the project of the state government in which 90% problems will be solved on the spot,” he said.

The people raised several of their issues and demands in the meeting. Some of them were forest land, road margin etc for disposal of 94C and 94CC applications. Disposal of dry waste, Bahugrama drinking water, Ambedkar Bhavan sites and reservation of land for crematorium.

The work that was kept pending for a long time by the officials was done by them by the fear of the deputy commissioner. A beneficiary said that an officer was harassing him for no objection letter and issued it the previous evening.
