Mangaluru, Mar 20: A blue print for the beautification and development of Collectors Gate Circle located in the heart of the city has been prepared. As per plan, the old building is decided to be demolished, as it is blocking the development. Once the new construction comes up, smooth movement of vehicles would be possible at this point,
There is an old building at the circle and the corporation had found it impossible to acquire this building for the expansion of the circle. Even though the road from Ambedkar Circle to Collectors Gate was widened, the road leading to Bendorewell from Collectors Gate Circle was narrow near the circle with space for only a bus to move. In the past, the corporation had not engaged the owner of the private building in a conciliatory talk and therefore the road was not expanded. For the police too, handling of the dense traffic at the circle in the morning and again in the evening had become a tough task.
In the past, this building housed Canara Bank branch, which was shifted a few years back. Later, this building is lying vacant and it looks like a dilapidated building because of non-maintenance.
As over 300 works all over the city are pending because of court cases, emphasis is now being laid on getting things done through mutual understanding. Now discussions are under way with the building owner for the construction of building by leaving setback. The corporation has also offered TDR facility.
Corporator Naveen D'Souza, said that talks with the building owner are in progress and that he has agreed to cooperate with development works. Shortly, the road here will be widened and the area will be developed, he added.
