Riyadh: Eight mosques shut after spike in Covid cases

Riyadh, Mar 20: Eight mosques in four regions were temporarily shut by the Saudi ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance on Friday March 19, after a number of Covid cases were confirmed among worshippers.

Just over 40 days, a spike in cases led to the forced closure of nearly 319 mosques, with 306 reopening after sanitization measures were completed, a Saudi Press Agency reported.

The ministry reported that four of the mosques shut were in Qassim, two in Riyadh, and one in each Baha and Eastern Province. Authorities will continue to implement measures to ensure the safety of visitors, the ministry added.
