Udupi, Mar 20: The district administration has since arranged for suitable night stay facility for the candidates who are participating in the army recruitment rally going on in the city.
As many as 1,000 candidates have been accommodated in the Rajangana and parking area of Sri Krishna Math while 300 more have been provided facility at Ambalpady temple. A thousand candidates have been accommodated in G Shankar College, Vivekananda School and Bannanje Mahalingeshwara temple. A round the clock help desk has been started near the Ajjarkad army memorial where the candidates are provided details about their stay and other facilities.
Many candidates who fail in the recruitment process opt to stay back in the city. This is giving rise to space problem for them. In this connection, additional deputy commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu, held a meeting with the head of the army recruitment division, Col Dubash, municipal president, municipal commissioner, Udupi tahsildar, and officials of the police department. Prabhu instructed the officials to take suitable steps to manage the situation.
From Saturday, G Shankar College will be fully dedicated to provide a stay facility for the army recruitment candidates. It was noted that many candidates arrived several days before the date set for them, while those who fail to clear the tests also stayed back.
