Mangaluru, Mar 19: Fish chips which have been introduced to the market under the Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation (KFDC) brand in association with 'Matsyabandhu' organisation, will soon be made available at the trains and railway stations in the country.
The proposed plans are in the concluding state after a series of correspondences. A team of railway experts checked the fish chips and gave 'A' rating. Relating to supply and sale of the item, the railways and KFDC will enter into a memorandum of undertaking, said 'Matsyabandhu' director, Govind Poojary.

At present, fish chips and other value-added fish products are being manufactured at the factory at Hebbal Bengaluru. After December, they will also be made in the new factory coming up at Byndoor, he said. He said that applications have been invited for selecting district level stockists of the products for being distributing locally. These district level stockists will release the products through distributors under them.
Fish chips: Fish chips made of fish have high protein content. These chips are made by removing fat and retaining natural nutrients. They will be rich in omega 3 fats, vitamin D and B 2, he said. He revealed that this is not junk food like normal chips, and they do not emanate bad odour. These chips will be available in four varieties, Palak, carrot, tomato and masala. They will be available in all the outlets of KFDC and Matsyadarshini at the rate of Rs 40 and Rs 20 per packet.
KFDC chairman Nitin Kumar, said that an agreement to sell fish chips and other items in railways will be entered into soon. He said that fish ships have been well received by the people.
