Mangaluru, Mar 19: Teams of policemen from different police stations in the city conducted surprise raids on a number of quarries. After finding that the quarries were either run illegally or they were using explosives without adhering to norms, cases were registered against the mine owners.
Mulky town station inspector Revathi, along with staff, visited Panja stone quarry and checked the records. Barke police inspector Jyotirlinga Honnakatte, raided a black stone quarry at Aikala Pade along with staff. It was found that explosives were being used illegally. Inspector Kusumadhara, along with staff, raided another quarry in Aikala Pade where the team found that illegal explosives were used there.
Bajpe police sub-inspector Poovappa, raided a stone quarry at Garody where he found that stone slabs were denoted by using explosives illegally. A tipper truck and stones were taken into custody and case was registered against quarry owner. Konaje station sub-inspector Sharanappa Bhandary, along with others, visited a stone quarry in Balepuni village where he found blasts being set off by using explosives illegally. Cases were registered against the owners of quarries who were found violating other norms.
