Mumbai: ACB nabs BMC engineer, private contractor for taking bribe

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai

Mumbai, Mar 19: An assistant engineer of BMC and a private contractor were nabbed by the anti corruption Bureau (ACB) while accepting Rs 5 lac bribe from a fisherman at Sasoon docks in Colaba.

The fisherman wanted to repair his hutment, a small shed at Sassoon docks in which he used to store his nets, fish and other material.

Muzzafar Ali, a private contractor, was given the contract who insisted that the work required BMC’s permission. On March 8, Ali said that BMC assistant engineer, Sandeep Gite, had demanded Rs 27 lac as bribe, which was later reduced to Rs 5 lac.
