Mangaluru, Mar 18: Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police, Laxmi Prasad, urged the officers in his department to identify spots in the district that have witnessed highest accidents during the last three to four years, and take steps to transform them into no accident zones. "If necessary, barricades can be erected and boards announcing them as accident zones can be installed. In sensitive areas, modern cameras can be fixed to measure the speed of vehicles and to penalise vehicles that have violated road rules," he stressed.
He was speaking after presiding over the district level road safety committee's district level meeting. He also said that auto rickshaw parks and bus bays have to be built at the specified spots under the Smart City Project at places where they do not give rise to traffic bottlenecks. He also laid emphasis on the need to create road dividers on national highways and other roads, paint the zebra crossings meant for pedestrians etc.
Regional transport officer, Varnekar, Puttur division KSRTC controller, Jayakar Shetty, Mangaluru division KSRTC controller, Kamal Kumar H R, were present.
