Mangaluru, Mar 18: Deputy commissioner (DC) of Dakshina Kannada district, Dr Rajendra K V, has issued instructions to the concerned to execute development works under the Smart City Project quickly without creating problems for the general public.

He was speaking after presiding over a preliminary meeting about the resumption of Smart City Project development works. "The high court has given permission to restart the suspended works under the scheme. The engineers have to take steps to complete the works within the stipulated time in addition to collecting raw materials needed for their contract work," he stated.

"As many as 31 works were taken up under. Those words which have covered 90 percent work, have to be completed immediately. The remaining works should be completed before the monsoon begins. In case of works undertaken after blocking the traffic, works should be taken up by assigning work to different batches of workers during the day and night. Only if such measures are taken, works can be completed faster," he felt.

He noted that Smart City works have created inconveniences for the general public. He wanted those executing different works like smart city, GAIL India gas pipeline, underground drainage, drinking water works etc to coordinate with one another in order to obviate the need to block the roads. He said that scattering of things like pipes and other materials at the work spot creates problems for the smooth movement of people. Therefore, he advised the officials to properly stock the materials. "Once the works are completed, the areas should be brought back to normalcy. Traffic diversions etc should be done with police involvement. If the contractors suspend works, the district administration should be informed," he stated.

Probationary IAS officer Mona Roth, Mangaluru Urban Development Authority commissioner Dinesh Kumar, and managing director of Smart City Ltd Prashanth Mishra, were present.

What! Smart city works! The Sharadavidyalaya road is in the same condition since an year. I see no changes! The road is getting worster day by day and the students have no road to walk on. The students had to walk through the drainage water yesterday. This is so ridiculous what the government is doing with the tax payer's money. It is no use of complaining. I gave a complaint to the sharada puc college to inform the authority. They ridiculously ignored me. I dont think youths have a future in this country! I am a seventeen year old boy and I feel this!

After gas pipeline what next? Earlier it was telephone, water and etc. digging would be done and left like that till the next asphalting of the road or footpath. Looks like there is accountability in the MCC. Leaving items on the road like stones, pipes and gravel is the trademark of any public works any Government comes and goes giving fake promises, results will be same.

Also at places where roads are being dug for drainage or gasline work, should be filled with cement or thar not simply filing it with mud. Utter nonsense it is to construct a new road and dig it up!
