Udupi, Mar 17: Tenkanidiyoor gram panchayat (GP) member, Prakhyath Shetty, addressing a press meet here, condemned the action of the administration of the panchayat in shifting the main door of the panchayat office without seeking opinions of panchayat members, at the behest of someone. "As per the information available, the seats of the panchayat president and vice president currently do not conform to the Vaastu principles. There is suspicion that the main door was shifted for this purpose. If she cannot run the administration properly, president Gayatri should resign from her post," Shetty demanded.

Prakhyath Shetty spoke to the media at the Udupi Press Club on Wednesday March 17. He said that shifting of the main door without passing any resolution at the gram panchayat general session was a mistake. He condemned the gram panchayat president's action in filing caste abuse case against the gram panchayat members and villagers who questioned this wrong act.

He said that the BJP supported president, instead of providing proper explanation when approached by the democratically elected members and the villagers, showed haughty behaviour. He said that after the new administration took over power, only one general session of the panchayat was held and in that meeting, the issue of shifting of the main door had not been raised. He condemned the act of removing the main door of the panchayat which was in its place since long, and building a wall of laterite stones there. He said that the BJP administration is out to create problems for the people by removing the main door that was easy for the people to use, and shifting it to a corner. He said that the people are angry at this act. Shetty said there is suspicion about this work and demanded the people who have conducted this work to restore the things to their original positions without delay. He said that during the last six years, the BJP administration has not executed any development works. He accused it of wasting the tax money and showing total negligence. He warned of undertaking stronger measures of agitation in future.

In the meanwhile, caste abuse case was registered against Congress supported members, Suresh Nayak, Sathish Nayak, Meena Pinto, Prathviraj Shetty and Lalita Acharthi from Vishnunagara by the panchayat president Gayatri. Shetty said that the president has also lodged complaints against villagers who came there to seek redressal of their problems after asking them to get out.

Dhananjay Kunder, taluk panchayat member, had approached the president to discuss the above topic. It is said that Gayatri, vice president, Arun Jathan and some panchayat members used abusive language against him, pushed him around, threatened him and were about to attack him. Dhananjay complained about their behaviour on the basis of which the police registered case under different provisions of the Indian Penal Code.

Panchayat President should be concentrating more on what is good for the people of the panchayat and not about shifting a door because of vast or any other beliefs they hold undemocratically . Has she paid from her own pocket for shifting a door?
