GCZMA orders demolition of illegal extensions of two hotels in Bardez

Panaji, Mar 17: Two hotels in Bardez taluk, Goa carried out illegal extensions in the No Development Zone of CRZ. Both hotels made, one each in Britona and Colvale, are owned by a single owner. After activist Kashinath Shetye complained about the matter, Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) ordered the demolition of the illegal extensions.

The GCZMA had first ordered the demolition in its three meetings in 2018 and 2019. But the owner challenged the order before the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The NGT permitted the owner of the structures to file objections, produce additional documents and present additional arguments before the GCZMA.

In the case of the structure Casa Britona, the GCZMA said, “The authority, after hearing both parties, directed the respondent to remove the offending structures such as extension done to the massage parlour, kitchen and the swimming pool and all additional extensions within two weeks."

The GCZMA has asked its expert members to carry out inspection of the site after the demolition and submit a report before the authority.
