Mumbai, Jul 15: Though 30-year-old Suresh Bovi, a native of Neralekatte in Kundapur taluk of Udupi district, who was serving as manager of Hotel Durgaprasad, Kherwadi, Bandra (East), was hacked to death a month ago, his alleged killers have not yet been nabbed by the police.
Twenty-nine-year-old Munna alias Irfan and twenty-six-year-old Raja, both kitchen helpers hailing from North India who joined the hotel recently, were accused of hacking to death Suresh and fatally injuring cook Prakash Gupta on the early morning of Monday June 7, by barging into their room located on the ground flood of the building.
After committing the heinous crime, the duo fled with Rs 6,000 in cash and a mobile handset from Suresh.
The crime came to light only after a supplier arrived at Hotel Durgaprasad at 8.00 am on Sunday. He informed Rony Rodrigues and Harish Shetty, the partners of the hotel, who then informed the local police.
Critically injured Suresh and Prakash were admitted to Baba Hospital, Bandra (West), by the partners, and the doctors pronounced Suresh dead while Prakash survived with multiple injuries.
The mortal remains of Suresh were taken in an ambulance to his native Neralekatte, Kundapur, and cremated there. Suresh was married two years ago and is survived by his wife and a three-month-old baby.
“Restaurants and hotels across the metro are facing severe shortage of labourers owing to which North Indian labourers were employed at Hotel Durgaprasad a few days ago. The accused were sleeping on the first floor of the hotel and masterminded the plot by barging into the room where Suresh and Prakash were sleeping and assaulted them”, said Rony Rodrigues.
The police of suburban Bandra (East) at Nirmal Nagar, have not succeeded in nabbing the alleged killers so far and investigations are underway.
Rony Rodrigues and Harish Shetty urged other hoteliers and their staff to report any youth from North India who come seeking employment at the various hotels and restaurants in the metro.
