Mangaluru, Mar 12: Deputy commissioner (DC) Dr K V Rajendra on Friday March 12 said that citizens above 60 years of age and those over 45 years with comorbidities should come forward to take the Covid-19 vaccine.
Addressing a press meet at his office here, the DC said, "There are over 10 to 12% citizens aged above 60 years in the district. Covid vaccine is being provided at 90 government centers. There is fear and misconception about the vaccination. There are no side effects from the vaccine. Already, in the state, over 10 lac people are administered with the vaccine and no untoward incident has been reported."
The DC also said that the health department will initiate action for social mobilization and sensitize the community about the vaccine with help of ASHA workers. “In the coming days, heads of temples, churches and mosques will be urged to create awareness in this regard. All the centers will administer vaccines from 8 am to 9 pm.
"In the district, there is no shortage of vaccines. Till date, 3.6% of senior citizens and 913 those between 45 years to 59 years suffering from specific comorbidities have come forward to take the vaccine," he said.
District health officer Dr Ramachandra Bairy was present.
