Bengaluru: Dakshina Kannada youth invents eco-friendly plastic bags that dissolve in soil

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Mar 11: Ashwath Hegde, a youth from Dakshina Kannada district has invented an alternative bag for plastic, which dissolves in soil or water. Now, these bags are being sold in nooks and corners of the globe.

EnviGreen products, carry bags that are manufactured from the skin of selected vegetables and sweet potato, is the proud achievement of Ashwath Hegde. Hegde, who comes from a small village of Dakshina Kannada stands tall as a living example of Atmanirbhar, the programme which is being heavily encouraged by PM Narendra Modi.

Ashwath Hegde

When plastic was banned Ashwath sold cotton bags everywhere. He was questioned by a fisherwoman, whether it is worth to put fish costing Rs 20 in a bag that is costing Rs 25. This made Ashwath think of producing environment-friendly, cheap products. The result is EnviGreen. The manufacturers buy the raw material from Ashwath and produce covers of size and shape as required by them. Even if the consumer who carries products in this bag, throws it somewhere, it will get dissolved in soil within 180 days or six months. This product is in good demand in the US and Europe also.

Ashwath Hegde says that people are showing more interest in environment-friendly products after the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. That is why there is a great demand for his products. Many have shown interest in producing the final products from the raw material that is produced by Hegde.

Ashwath Hegde has given a good fight to the plastic bags which are negatively impacting the environment. In future, the green cover will be seen everywhere. When most of the young generation is trying to flee the country in pursuit of jobs overseas, the achievements of Ashwath Hegde is really laudable.

The title eco friendly platic bag is incorrect. If the bags are produced from sweet potato and other organic waste it is then termed as bio degradable bag. Remember that plastic is produced by polymerization of monomers and it is a irreversible reaction. So plastics take thousands of years to degrade.
