Udupi, Mar 11: District BJP president Kuilady Suresh Nayak, hailed chief minister B S Yediyurappa, for presenting his eighth state budget.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday March 11, Nayak said that this budget, size of which is Rs 2,46,207 crore, is a balanced budget that aims at the welfare of the farmers and the women. He said that an honest effort has been made by giving equal importance to all the districts without leaving any additional taxes.
"The chief minister has laid emphasis on the development of the state. Instead of reimbursement of tax portion for 1.5 lac kilo litres of diesel to the fishermen, he has taken steps to distribute diesel free of taxes at the delivery point. He has set aside Rs 62 crore for exploring sea resources, Rs 500 crore for tourism development, development of waterway from Hangarcutta to Manipal, development of Maravanthe Ottinene beach, etc,” he said.
Suresh said that Rs 37,188 crore has been set aside for women's development projects and women entrepreneurs will get loan up to two crore rupees at 4 percent interest. He accused the Congress of indulging in malicious and misinformation campaign against the central government's farm laws. Therefore, against this campaign, and to create awareness among the people about the agricultural acts, the district BJP will organize Padayatra during the second week of April from Byndoor to Udupi, he said. He also said that the district BJP has decided for village stays at 32 centres from March 20 onwards. Under this programme, a team of five to six persons will stay at the houses of BJP activists. Meetings will be held at 5 pm and consultation with active workers of the party and other things will be held. He said that the aim is to win 26 out of the 30 zilla panchayat seats and over 70 out of 85 taluk panchayat seats.
Zilla panchayat president Dinakar Babu, member Shilpa Suvarna, district spokesperson Guruprasad Shetty, general secretary Sadananda Uppinakudru and others were present.
