Mangaluru, Mar 11: The way in which Preksha (17), a college student who also was into modelling, was found hanging at her home in Kumpala Ashraya Colony within the limits of Ullal police station has given rise to different theories and myriad suspicions.
The police have already taken into custody three persons in this regard, and questioning them. The family members have accused that a gang involved with consumption and sale of ganja was behind their daughter's death.

The Ashraya Colony at Kumpala happens to be a cluster of five cents houses. Whatever happens in one house becomes public knowledge immediately because of their close proximity. It is said that a person residing in the neighbourhood had called the girl's mother in the afternoon.
The number of drug addicts in the said colony is increasing. The locals say that complaints filed with the police have not had any effect on the situation. The drug addicts used to tease girl students and ladies moving on the road. People say they fail to understand why no action was taken against the guilty even after complaints of ganja trafficking and drug consumption were given to the police. They say that the drug addicts and traffickers come to know who had filed the complaint, and then pose threats to the concerned. The area is affected by the problem of drug addicts and traffickers, the people say.
Yatin Raj from Mundoly, Saurabh from Ashraya Colony and Suhan have been arrested. Yatin Raj is said to be a member of the ganja gang. The family has named him as the one who directly participated in this murder. He was close to Preksha and opposed her participation in modelling assignments. It is said that he bought pressure on Preksha not to go to Bengaluru for the photoshoot.
Preksha was a brilliant student who participated in study and extracurricular activities with zeal. Singing, dancing, and modelling were her hobbies, and she participated in several photoshoots. On Wednesday she was to leave for Bengaluru for a photoshoot. But she was found hanging at her home. There is suspicion that her interest in modelling caused her death.
When Preksha's mother came home for lunch in the afternoon from the Anganwadi, the front door was closed and the rear door was open. She went inside and found Preksha's body hanging from a noose attached to the ceiling fan.
It is said that Yatin Raj, who is one of the three arrested persons, was in love with Preksha. It is being claimed that his love was one-sided. Yatin disliked Preksha's love for modelling and had fought with her, it is said. He had objected to her intention to go to Bengaluru for the photoshoot. In spite of his objections, Preksha had prepared to leave for Bengaluru and therefore had not attended the college. She had visited a beauty parlour and then returned home, it is said. Locals question how one can believe that she would have ended her life after making preparations to leave for Bengaluru. The locals as well as the family members of Preksha firmly believe that this was a well-planned murder.
