Bantwal, Mar 10: Bantwal police arrested a man accused of stealing a laptop belonging to a female college student travelling in a passenger bus.
The arrested has been identified as Manja alias Manjunath (45) resident of Dangey Park in KTJ Nagar, Davangere. The recovered laptop is said to be worth Rs 50,000.
The victim of theft identified as Ananya is a resident of Allipade, Devasya Padoor village and a student of SVS College, Bantwal. The incident took place while she was on her way back home from college on a private bus via BC Road on March 8. Ananya had placed her laptop on the seat next to her and stepped down to go to a nearby shop. She returned to her seat and found that her laptop was missing. Soon after the incident, Ananya filed a police complaint at the Bantwal town police station.
The accused along with the laptop travelled around Puttur and Guruvayanakere. He was preparing to go to his hometown from BC Road by train when the police arrested him on suspicion. The police produced the accused in court, who remanded him to judicial custody on Wednesday, March 10.
Crime division SI Kalaimar had taken up the investigation on directions from town police station inspector Cheluvaraj. ASI Jayaram Rai, Krishna Kulal, Usman, Srikanth, Manohar, Gonibasappa, Vivek and Kumar have assisted in the operation.
