Mangaluru, Mar 10: As the water level at Thumbe vented dam on which the city depends for its water requirement has a water level of six metres now, the city is not likely to face any water-related hiccups this summer.
In 2019, the city had faced some water shortage as inflow into the said dam had become feeble. Currently, there is continuous inflow into the dam. Water is being released once in three days. Excess water is also being released once in three days from the Shambhoor AMR dam.

As the dam had a full level of water last year, the city had not faced a water shortage. This year the areas feeding the dam received rainfall during January and February and it appears that water rationing will not be needed this time for the citizens.
Richard, the Thumbe dam department engineer, said that after the new dam with a capacity of seven metres was inaugurated, fear of water scarcity has become the thing of the past. He said that the current level of six metres will be continued to be maintained in the dam throughout the summer.
160 mld water is supplied from Thumbe dam including domestic, commercial, large scale industries and wholesale connections. As water flow in River Netravati is robust, villages located by the side of the river too will not face a shortage. Because of the vented dam across River Falguni at Moodushedde and Karavoor, people in that area are getting enough water for agriculture and drinking.
City corporation commissioner, Akshy Sridhar, said that no water shortage is expected this year, but advised people to utilise water judiciously.
