Mumbai, Jul 11: Kariyina Nempulu (bygone memories), a Tulu poetry composed by Mangalore-based young poet and artist Rajendra Kedige bagged Kavya Kanchana Award by Kanchan Pratishtana here.

Kedige’s Tulu poetry Kariyina Nempulu bagged top ranking in World Tulu Poetry competitions held here during April. The World Tulu Poetry competitions were organized by Kanchan Pratishtana here with the view of encouraging up and coming Tulu poets and publishing their poetry.

Leeladhar Baikampady, chief promotor of Kanchana Pratishtana said that Rajendra Kedige tried to depict the losing sheen of Tulunadu culture in daily life across the coastal district, in his poetry Kariyina Nempulu.  Besides, honest efforts by young poets with due emphasis on preserving Tulunadu culture among the natives despite the globalization was duly considered in the competitions, said Leeladar.
 
Meanwhile, Leeladhar expressed hope that Tulu literary has greater scope, which has been proved by the response of budding poets, he added.
 
Kanchan Pratishtana received over 100 entries, out of which a Tulu poetry Bolpu Pattale – Gidapi Kattale by Sadanand Padre Suratkal, a Mangalore resident bagged the second place. Shimantoor Chandrahasa Suvarna, a Mumbai resident bagged third place for his poetry Medale.
 
Yaan Yennande Yennade, poetry by Kadandale Vasu Shetty, a resident of Mumbai, Badak Badalnaga, poetry by Chitrapu K M Kotian, a resident of Mumbai, Terile Tulunada Porlu, poetry by Mittoor Vishwanath Kulal, a resident of Puttur in Dakshina Kannada (DK) district, Tuluva Mannada Kammena, poetry by Dota Rajesh Shetty, a resident of Bantwal in DK and Joklatike, poetry by Ninnikallu Sita R Shet are the 5 poetries that bagged the consolation prizes.
 
The first prize consists of a citation letter and Rs 10,000. The second prize consists of a citation letter and Rs 7,000 and the third prize consists of a citation letter and Rs 5,000.  The consolation prizes consist of a citation letter and Rs 2,000. 
 
The veteran Tulu scholars Dr Amrut Someshwar, Dr Vaman Nandavar, Dr Vasant Kumar Perla, Dr Purushottam Bilimale and Dr Sunita Shetty Mumbai were the jurors of these competitions.
