Beltangady: Tree felling proves fatal - Three people killed, two injured

Beltangady, Mar 9: Tree felling proved tragic for three people as they lost their lives in an incident that took place at Patrame here in the afternoon on Tuesday March 9.

A Dhoop tree was being felled near Kayila in Patrame. The broken tree rolled over and fell on five men beneath it.

The deceased have been identified as Prashanth Kumbar (21) and Swasthik Poojary (23) from Patrame and Ganesh (38) from Uppinangady. Two others suffered injuries.

The tree was being cut at a land belonging to Lokaiah Gowda from Kayila. Beltangady police circle inspector Sandesh P G, Dharmasthala police station sub-inspector Pavan Kumar and staff visited the spot.

    Felling tree is not everybody's of cup of tea. It requires experience. First they have to cut the small branches, then the big , heavy branches and eventually, in the end, the hard wood, the stem of the tree and it should tilt in one direction. Very sad, 3 workers died.

    Very bad and sad too.Here was a person who never knew professionality of a cutting a tree.Bigger the tree ,more attention and planning is needed.They should have cut the branches first and then rythmically the tree ,so that it doesnt fall on persons and die.could also tie the upper part to another nearby tree to avoid the falling tree slowly comes down.well file the case on the person who was responsible to this deadly accident.Heartfelt condolences to the families.who will now compansate to their families .May thier souls rest in peace.

    Very sad. These working youths are real hope of our future, be it infrastructure development, buildings or damns! Rules with regards to Health, wellness and safety concerns should always be in place and practised to protect from accidents and preserve valuable lives. Flight of their poor families must be miserable now!

    Irrespective of the Laws in place - NOT TO FELL TREES WITHOUT GOVT PERMISSION - how this was done in an insane manner. Looks so un professional in this advanced day in our life. No scientific methods used at all. Culprits must be punished.

    Who said. I cut a mango tree with due permission seeking. But all of the authorities said it was not necessary you could proceed without their approval.
