Bantwal: Mangaluru-Bengaluru NH 75 development work at snail’s pace

Daijiworld Media Network - Bantwal (MS)

Bantwal, Mar 9: The important road that connects the coastal districts with capital city Bengaluru is national highway (NH) 75 between Mangaluru-Bengaluru. But the irony is that some or the other stretch of it is always under repair.

The work of upgrading the BC Road-Addahole highway stretch was to be completed by now. However, the work is not progressing. In fact the work has stopped for many months. L&T had got the tender to upgrade 65 km of highway between BC Road and Addahole in 2017 for Rs 821 crore. If it had started the project right away the work should have been completed by 2019. But so far except digging the old road no other progress is seen.

This is the most direct road to Bengaluru from Mangaluru and Udupi. Though Bengaluru can be reached via Charmadi also, the distance is longer. Going via Mysuru is taking a merry-go-round.

This highway is the easiest for fuel tankers as well as goods vehicles. In addition, to save time the cost of fuel would also be less. But its seems like the NHAI officials are not interested in getting this project done in time.

The other roads leading to Bengaluru are also affected due to the huge number of vehicles. In the road that goes via Charmadi, there is always a danger of landslides and the road getting closed. The road that passes through Sampaje Ghat also is not safe as there was a landslide some years ago. The only road that is accessed by all is the Shiradi Ghat. Though the road was developed after concretization the present B C Road-Addahole issue is bothering the commuters now.

According to the Detailed Project Report (DPR) that was made ready in the beginning, along with the highway development two small size bridges, 24 minor bridges, 27 retainer walls and more than 100 drains and a wide divider in between were there. However, except for some drains, the work is just half done. No one is there to ask the progress.

Recently myself and my wife travelled extensively in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Three weeks ago, we caught the NH-75 Mangalore to Bangalore road while coming out of Kukke. My goodness..... I haven't seen such pathetic road upto Hassan. Even the Srinagar to Leh road is far far superior. I don't know what is the NHAI & BJP governments in Delhi and Bangalore doing. Understand the status of the road was pathetic for the last 3-4 years. No point giving excuses L&T is not doing etc - please pull them or throw them out. Let us have some peaceful travel.

All of you don't worry. Currently NHAI is laying around 20kms of highways everyday. So this road should be completed in 13 days time; taking the distance between MLR & BLR to be 351kms. Well I did'nt say that,

Our government is busy deciding if they should open doors to congressmen. They r focussing on operation KAMALA. So they don't have time for development. Still remember the song on every news channel " hum modi ji ko lane wale hai, ache din ane wala hai." M sure the production was sponsored by the gujus so only Ambani's and Advani's are seeing ache din.

some projects have issues at the local level such as land acquisition, litigation in courts, contractor delays and lack of leadership at the local level to pursue rigorously for completion of the project. The delays are also caused by constant changes to the project plan which again contributes to the delay.

L&T had got tender for completing concreted wide road from Addahole to B C Road for Rs 821 crore. But there was delay in land acquisition and ministries failed to give clearances on time. At the sametime, the highways department planned to drop 16 km stretch from the purview of the tender because of forest department objections. Therefore, the company had backed out from executing this contract.

In the name of development taking people for a ride. 1/2 km S. L. Mathias road, Falnir the road works going on since last four years. A total mess in the name of development. Total corruption from corporator, MLA, MP and etc. AAP would be a better choice in Karnataka.
