Body cameras for ticket examiners extended to Puttur, Mangaluru divisions

Mangaluru, Mar 8: Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has undertaken the initiative to provide body cameras to ticket examiners in order to maintain transparency in the operations and tide over the confusion that arises on the issue of tickets often.

There used to be confusion in the matter of issuing tickets and sometimes arguments took place. There were complaints from the conductors that the ticket examiners do not conduct the checks properly and unnecessarily complain against conductors. In some cases, passengers said they were not issued tickets.

In order to maintain transparency in operations, the ticket examiners henceforth have to use body cameras. KSRTC Mangaluru division has 10 ticket examiners. They have been issued body cameras but because of the technical problem, only two are working. In the Puttur division, body cameras have been given to five people.

The body cameras are fitted to the shirt pocket when undertaking the checking. When the examiners get down, they are switched off. Details of the checking they conduct are recorded and the details remain stored there for about a month. If there are any disputes, the officials check the body camera records

These cameras had been used for the first time in BMTC because of confusions and arguments. Later, they have been extended to southeast, southwest and KSRTC divisions. The divisional controller of the KSRTC Mangaluru division, Kamal Kumar, said that out of 10 body cameras received by the division, only two are in working condition. He said that soon the operations will be fully covered by the body cameras.
