Sullia: 18-year-old youth drowns in Payaswini river while taking bath

Sullia, Mar 8: An 18-year-old boy has died after he drowned in the Payaswini river here on Sunday, March 7.

The deceased has been identified as Udaneshwara Bhat, son of Gopalakrishna Bhat, a resident of Mavina Mane, Darbethadka near Kaudicharu in Puttur.

It is said that after completing his pre-university education, Udaneshwara joined Bharadwaja Ashram in Aramboor to learn Vedas. On March 7, Udaneshwara along with his six friends had been to take bath Payaswini river at 5 pm.

It is said that boy drowned while playing in the water. But, this went unnoticed by his other friends who were with him. After reaching the Ashram, when his friends searched for the Udaneshwara they noticed he was not with them. After they found his slippers on the banks of the river, they informed to seniors in the Ashram. Though the locals and people from Ashram, searched for Udaneshwara, his mortal remains surfaced only later that night.
