Bengaluru, Mar 8: Minister for Kannada and culture, Arvind Limbavali, has informed that the issue of giving recognition to Tulu as a state language will be considered after holding discussions with chief minister B S Yediyurappa.
He was speaking at a programme organized by Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy on Sunday March 7 at Ravindra Kalakshetra where a programme of conferring honorary awards and book awards was held.
"Coastal Karnataka is a holy land. The culture and traditions of that part are excellent. There is demand to declare Tulu as a state language. We have sent proposal to the central government to include Tulu, Kodava and Banjara languages to the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. A delegation comprising representatives of academy and members of the authority will go to the union minister for culture to put pressure to give approval to the said proposal soon," he stated.
Dr Prabhakar Bhat Kalladka, president, Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha Puttur, speaking on the occasion, said that people speaking Tulu have settled down in different countries and they are always ready to serve India. He said that most of the countries in the world are eagerly awaiting the installaiton of welfare state in India and it will materialise with the construction of Ram Mandir, he added.
Tulu Sahitya Academy honourary awards for 2018, 2019 and 2020, book awards, young achiever award and special child talent award were handed over.
'Sri Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math presided. Minsiter S Angara, chairman of Coastal Development Authority, Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde, president of Tulu Sahitya Academy, Dayanand G Kattalsar and others were present. On this occasion, memorandums containing the demands to accord state language status for Tulu, including it in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, strengthening the academy and appointment of Tulu speaking teachers in areas where Tulu is widely spoken, was handed over to the minister.
Dayanand G Kattalsar on this occasion, requested the chief minister to release a grant of Rs 3.6 crore in addition to Rs 4.5 crore released earlier, for completing the construction of Tulu Bhavana.
