Mangaluru, Mar 7: Noted Konkani singer Melwyn Peris released a new music album 'Alleluia Gavyam' vol 21, a collection of devotional songs on Saturday, March 6. The album was blessed and released by bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha. It contains six new hymns and six devotional instrumental melodies.
Melwyn Peris is in his 40th year of service at Guardian Angel's church choir. He joined the choir in July 1981 and has served as the choir leader since 1992. Melwyn's involvement in the choir helped him compose many liturgical hymns and masses.
Most of his compositions have also received an imprimatur from the church authorities in the Mangaluru diocese. Even the late bishop Dr Basil D'Souza, bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza and Dr Peter Paul Saldanha have blessed and released his devotional cassettes and CDs.
Extending gratitude on the occasion, Melwyn Peris said, "On this occasion, I would like to take a moment to thank the late Fr Walter Albuquerque, the late Sr Irene D'Souza, Fr Francis Cornelio and Joel Pereira, Fr Jayaprakash D'Souza for their unconditional support. I would also like to thank all the directors of Mangala Jyothi who have helped me to get the imprimatur for most of the hymns."
"I have dedicated this album to all the parishioners of Angelore Church. I thank all the parish priests and assistant parish priests who have encouraged me all these years. Last but not the least, I extend my thanks to all the choir members of Angelore Church and the priests and choir members of other churches of Mangaluru and Udupi diocese. In the end, I thank Daijiworld for promoting my talent," he added.
