Udupi, Mar 6: Two persons from the district will take part in the video interaction with Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi being organized on the occasion of 'Janaushadhi Diwas' celebrations being organized on Sunday, March 7.
Sundar Poojary Moodukukkude, owner of the Janaushadhi centre located near the community health centre at Brahmavar and Sudhir Poojary will interact with the Prime Minister on this occasion. The programme is being organized on the ground next to the Brahmavar community health centre. Union minister for chemicals and fertilizers, D V Sadananda Gowda, also will take part in the programme.
For the last three years, the union government has been celebrating March 7 as of Janaushadhi Diwas in order to create awareness among the public about making use of generic medicines. On this day every year, the PM has been interacting with the beneficiaries of the scheme. This year, two from the district have been selected for the purpose.
Sundar Poojary had opened the Janaushadhi Centre at Brahmavar in September 2018. On average, a hundred people buy medicines from this shop every day and the sale of medicines averages four to five lac rupees per month.
Sudhir Poojary, who is from Manuru Padukere, Kota, a specially-abled person chosen under the segment of the beneficiaries of the Janaushadhi scheme, was prescribed seven different tablets by the doctor. He had to spend Rs 2,500 on these medicines per month. Sudhir has now resorted to buying these medicines from the Janaushdari Kendras as a result of which his medical expenses have come down.
Dr Padmanabha Kamath, cardiologist of KMC Hospital Mangaluru has been chosen for the 'Best Janaushadhi Doctor' award for this year. Dr Kamath happens to be from among a handful of doctors chosen from all over the country for this coveted award.
