Udupi, March 5: Akhila Bharathiya Sahitya Parishad had held poetry competitions in three stages in the state with the theme ‘Ayodyeyalli Ramamandira Hridayadalli Ramachandira’ (Ramamandira at Ayodhya and full moon in the heart). 57 poems which were selected on district and divisional level which reached the final stage and were selected for state level.
The poem ‘Ittigegalu Matthe Matadutive’ (bricks speak again) by Udupi district resident Umesh Acharya out of them was selected for first prize at the poetic conference held at Mysuru on February 28. Three other poets who represented Udupi district were Sujatha Rao, Dr Manjunath Karaba and Varun Heroor.
Veteran author Dr C P Krishnamurthi who chaired the conference said that Ramamandira is a symbol of India’s identity. “The 492 old dream is becoming a reality now. It is a witness to India’s success,” he said.
Akhila Bharathiya Sahitya Parishad vice president S I Koti inaugurated the conference after lighting the lamp. Veteran scholar Hiremagaluru Kannan, Dr V B Arati, Parishat chief secretary Raghunandan Bhat, Mysuru district president Dr V Ranganath, divisional convener Dr Sudhaker Hosalli and several elite persons were present.
