Mangaluru, Mar 4: In the recent past, it has become common for people to come across concrete roads in the city being dug up within weeks of their inaugural for various purposes. The departments concerned are becoming a laughing stock for turning concrete roads into a series of patchworks.
Because of substandard works, a concrete road has been dug, The people are of the opinion that the officials concerned should be held accountable and they should be subjected to stringent steps.
The road connecting car street and Sharavu temple had a lot of potholes. Therefore, a new concrete road was planned under the smart city project. This new road was inaugurated a month back. Now it is being dug up.
When executing the road work, on account of the carelessness of the officials, concrete pieces were dropped into the manhole located on this road. This went unnoticed when building the road. Now within a month of road completion, effluents from the manhole began to spring out of the manhole. This created problems for the people living on either side of the road.
Therefore the road has been dug, and work is in progress.
Former corporator, Manjula Nayak, said that improper works under the Smart City project were conducted. She says that the local corporator, to whose attention the problem was brought, did not respond properly. A local, Namadev Nayak, said that taxpayers money has gone waste because of substandard work. Corporator, Poornima, said that because of the carelessness of officials, concrete pieced fell into the manhole. She said the work will be completed within three days, duly adding that the MLA has been informed about the officials who showed negligence in this case.
