Mangaluru, Mar 3: The district administration on Thursday March 4, cleared an illegal goshala on government land at Kenjar, on the outskirts of the city with help of police force.
According to the district administration, the land in which the goshala existed, was earmarked for the Coast Guard Training Academy.
In recent District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting held at Netravati auditorium in zilla panchayat on February 22, Deputy commissioner (DC) Dr K V Rajendra had said that the district administration would initiate action to vacate the encroached land allotted for the academy. Even, BJP state president Nalin Kumar in the meeting had stated that if the goshala is an illegal one, action could be taken against it.
Speaking to Daijiworld.com, the owner of the cattle at the goshala, Prakash Shetty said, “Without serving any notice, the district administration has demolished the cattle shelter. There are 300 cattle in my goshala. Where should I find an alternative land for the cattle? Even the sale deed of the land is on my name. At least, the government has to provide an alternate land for the goshala. But, without any such measures, the goshala has been demolished.
"This cruel act of the administration and representatives is a betrayal to Hindutva and humanity. It is worse than Mughal rulers,” he said.
A few locals opined that there are many illegally constructed building in the city, but the administration is not clearing those. But now, who will take care of the cattle in Kenjar, they said.
