Mangaluru, Mar 4: Newly elected city mayor, Premananda Shetty, observed that development works worth thousands of crores of rupees are in progress in the city now. He promised to see that these projects are properly executed, and also to effectively implement integrated drinking water supply plan.

Shetty was speaking to media persons at the city corporation building here on Wednesday after taking over charge from the immediate past mayor, Diwakar Pandeshwar. "First preference will be given to timely execution of works undertaken in the previous term in a time bound manner. As regards integrated, uninterrupted drinking water supply scheme the current system will be upgraded and meetings will be held every month for the effective implementation of the project," he stated.

Shetty noted that people's participation had played key role in getting the smart city project allotted to the city. Likewise, he said, he will try to complete smart city plans at the earliest.

"About the solid waste disposal, the term of the current contractor is ending soon. As per the government guidelines, the corporation commissioner will outsource or directly recruit civic workers," he said. He blamed the previous administration for executing Urwa Market building without proper advance planning and in a hurry. He stated that the chairman of Mangaluru Urban Development Authority has suggested certain formula to tide over the problems. He said that an effort to handle the problem jointly will be made.

About the encroachment of main drains in the city, he said that drone survey has been conducted in eight wards, which gives clear picture of the encroachment. He said that strict actin will be taken to clear the encroachments.

MLAs D Vedavyas Kamath and Dr Y Bharath Shetty, MUDA chairman Ravishankar Mijar, immediate past mayor Diwakar Pandeshwar, deputy mayor Vedavathi and corporators were present.
Shetty said that the commissioner has suggested to appoint 30 people in addition to one MPW worker currently functioning at the rate of one per ward. He noted that water meters have become non-functional and on the basis of complaints, the concerned will be asked to issue bills on the basis of average consumption.

Deputy mayor Sumangala Rao, also took over charge on this occasion.

    Please finish all road works, all business establishments have suffered since last February/ March and most of the establishments have not yet recovered due to the road works at many places in the name of SMART CITY.

    Please finish of pending works around hampankatta . Sad to see the dirty picture where most of people from various areas pass by . presently buses going towards falnir take right turn in that muddy road at the start of LHH road.

    Please finish Surathkal market building project as soon as possible. Mr. Bhawa previous MLA had started this project now it's catching dust and building concrete rods are rusted. If you delay the project more than after completion in the later stage it might collapse.
