Mangaluru, Mar 2: Retired bank employees, P Raghunath Kamath and his wife, wanted to settle down peacefully on retirement after serving at various places. They suffer from age-related ailments. After the underground drainage and concrete road works started six months back in their locality, they say, they have become the prisoners of their own houses. Dwaraka Nagar is a residential locality near Kottara in the city.
It is hot outside and boiling inside. But the people of Dwaraka Nagar do not have the liberty to open their doors and windows for air circulation in general and cold breeze in the evening. Only a few people go out to bring the essentials. Otherwise the main road here is deserted.
The road and underground drain work under the Amrit scheme have robbed them of their peace. The interlock kept aside pending the works have been taken away by someone. The entire road is full of dust and dirt. It has been six months since the drainage work started. Water pipes burst when vehicles move here, while vehicle wheels get stuck in slush during the monsoon. The locals say that because of the drainage mess, they are faced with the problems of house flies too.
