Udupi, Mar 2: “It appears that Covid cases have spiked in the district these days. As per the opinion of the district expert advisory committee, masks should be worn, sanitizers should be used and social distance should be maintained without fail,” said deputy commissioner (DC) G Jagadeesha. He was speaking after presiding over a district expert advisory committee meeting held at the deputy commissioner’s office on Tuesday March 2.

He said, “Educational institutes have already reopened in the district but adherence to the Covid regulations is not seen in them. Action will be taken against teachers and educational institutes that violate Covid regulations. People arriving from Kerala and Maharashtra should mandatorily undergo RT-PCR tests and produce Covid negative reports. Criminal cases under Epidemic Act will be registered against those who arrive without RT-PCR test report.

“Marshalls will be appointed to take action against those who do not wear masks and maintain social distance during gatherings and celebrations. They will visit the spots, impose fines and take legal action against owners of buildings in case of violations.

“People should inform the nearest health centres, details of those who arrive from outside the state and outside the country. Obtain primary details of Covid infected from the health department and make them undergo Covid tests.

“The percentage of Covid vaccinations in the district among health activists and front line workers is 74% and 73%. It is good when compared to other districts in the state. Third session of Covid vaccination programme has begun now. People should get themselves vaccinated in large numbers,” he said.

“Increase the current number of tests by the health department and concentrate more on primary contacts,” said CEO Dr Navin Bhat.

District health officer Dr Sudhir Chandra Sooda, district surgeon Dr Madhusudan Nayak, Covid special officer Dr Premanand, various health department officials and district expert advisory committee members were present.
