Brahmavar, Mar 2: Long back, the work of constructing a drinking water tank had been undertaken near Padukere Arama temple within Kotathattu gram panchayat limits at a cost of Rs 16.75 lac. It has been a year since the work was started but it has not been inaugurated. At the same time, the old tank that is in dilapidated condition, awaits demolition.
The people are angry that the new tank work has not been completed even after a year. The old tank is in a fragile condition and if it crashes, it can damage the houses nearby and harm the people.
It is said that the work of the tank has been defective. The steel rods used were the normal 10 mm to 12 mm that are suitable for house construction. The locals said they had pointed out this mistake, but the concerned overlooked their suggestions. Moreover rules like maintaining distance from houses of at least 15 meters etc have not been followed.
Kotathattu gram panchayat development officer, Shyla S Poojary, says that the irrigation department and engineer will be sounded about the tank. The old tank would be removed once the new tank is found in order and water supply starts from there, she added.
Mohan Naik, engineer, Udupi zilla panchayat, says that the quality of tank is good and that the concerned have been instructed to complete works within two weeks.
