Mangalore, Jul 6: Heavy rains were experienced in Coastal Karnataka on Monday July 5. The rains relented a bit in the evening. Bajpe and Panambur recorded a rainfall of 13 cms each.
A peson named Ashok Poojary (32) suddenly slipped and fell into Gurpur rivulet after he suffered a slip, while walking past the Adyapady dam. A minor bridge on Bolantoor Road near Kalladka was washed away, creating problems for the people. Another minor bridge collapsed at Kamila near Guttigar.
The Air India Express flight from Kuwait could not touch down at the local airport on Monday morning. It was diverted Kochin and then to Kozhikode. The passengers bound for the city were brought in a bus from there. It is learnt that the Air Traffic Terminal here did not give clearance for its landing here, as the visibility in the runway was poor. Other flights that arrived here later, however, landed safety, in spite of light drizzle.
River Kumaradhara is overflowing. Sullia, Puttur, Uppinangady etc, got heavy rains. Water entered several shops and houses in Kottara, Kuloor etc.
The meteorological department has predicted normal to heavy rainfall, apart from winds with a velocity of 45 to55 kms per hour to sweep the coast in the next 24 hours. It has warned the fishermen not to venture into the sea.
