Customs officials at Mangaluru airport seize foreign currency worth Rs 5.52 lac from passenger

Mangaluru, Mar 1: Based on intelligence and reconnaissance, Customs officials nabbed a carrier of foreign currency on Monday March 1.

The seized foreign currency recovered is worth Rs 5,52,678.

The passenger who was intercepted is identified as Muzakkir Ahamed Faqui Ameda hailing from Honnavara of Uttara Kannada district. Muzakkir, who was set to travel to Dubai by flight No SG143, tried to smuggle the foreign currency with denominations in Pound Sterling, Dollar and Kuwait Dinar out of India by secreting in his inner garments kept in his baggage. The said foreign currency was attempted to be smuggled without valid documentary evidence and in a clandestine manner.

Further investigation is in process.

The Customs team was led by Avinash Kiran Rongali IRS deputy commissioner, Customs, and comprised Rakesh and Vikas, superintendents.
